Fall is finally here and the busy holiday season is just around the corner.  As we approach the holidays, it is a good time to knock out some home maintenance that will save you headaches in the future.  Here are a few home maintenance tips for the Fall!

Check For Drafts

According to the US Department of Energy, you lose a lot of heat through windows.  Installing new weatherstripping is easy and one of the most efficient ways to keep your heating cost lower.

Winterize Your Outdoor Faucets

Before the colder weather sets in, it is a great time to drain and disconnect your outdoor hoses to prevent water from freezing in them.  You can also cover your outdoor spigots with insulated covers to prevent pipes from busting when the temperature drops.

Change Your HVAC Filters

This should be done more regularly than the Fall, but it is important to remember this tip.  Clogged filters make it  harder to keep your home at the temperature you want it too be which will increase your heating bills.

Change Your Batteries

The rule of thumb is when the time change occurs, you should change your batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Have Your Fireplace Cleaned

If you have a wood-burning fireplace, now is a great time to have a professional come out and clean it out.  A dirty fireplace puts you at higher risk for chimney fires and you don’t want to take that chance.

Clean Out Your Gutters

As the leaves fall and the temperature drops, having debris in your gutters can cause big problems.  Now is a great time to clean out the gutters to prevent issues in the future.
